SPECIAL AWARDS
LOUIS ARMSTRONG JAZZ AWARD - Trophy
This award is given in recognition of outstanding
achievement by an instrumentalist in the field of jazz, as
demonstrated through superior musicianship, character and
individual creativity.
TARA CIPRIANI MEMORIAL AWARDS - $50
Tara Cipriani, a member of the Class of 1989 who died of
Cystic Fibrosis at the age of sixteen and one half years, is
best remembered as being “small, but powerful”. She loved
life, showed much compassion for the underprivileged and
handicapped, and generated love to all she knew. The Tara
Cipriani Awards are offered by family and friends to seniors
who are compassionate, have a sense of humor, and have the
potential to do well in furthering their education.
CAROLYN ELLIOTT MEMORIAL AWARD - Plaque
The Carolyn Elliott Memorial Award is an athletic award
presented to an outstanding senior female student-athlete
who embodies: Leadership in athletic and school activities,
Scholarship with above average competence in academics,
Service with awareness and concern for others, as well as
excellence in Athletics while exhibiting genuine interest
and demonstrating sportsmanship.
MARILYN (MAY) FERGUSON MEMORIAL AWARD - Plaque
The Marilyn (May) Ferguson Memorial Award is an athletic
award presented to a well-rounded senior female
student-athlete who has made positive contributions to the
Interscholastic Athletic Program and exemplifies those
qualities our coaches want to see in OFA student-athlete.
FINE ARTS AWARD - $100
The Fine Arts Award is given to a student for the study of
visual arts.
PATRICK GILMORE BAND AWARD – Certificate
The Patrick Gilmore Band Award is presented to a student who
has made outstanding contributions to the school concert
band.
LEE W. HARWELL MEMORIAL AWARD - $50
The Lee W. Harwell Memorial Award is presented by his
mother, Eleanor B. Harwell, to the student whose interest
lies in the field of biological science and intends to
pursue a career in that field. Mr. Harwell, a 1964 graduate
of OFA, spent many years in the field of cancer research.
WOODY HERMAN AWARD - Certificate
The Woody Herman Jazz Award is presented to a student who
has made outstanding contributions to the school stage band.
CARMELLA MAROUN MEMORIAL AWARD - $50
Eleanor Harwell, in memory of Carmella Maroun, presents this
award to a student who has achieved the highest mark on the
Comprehensive English Regents examination.
NATIONAL CHORAL AWARD - Trophy and Certificate
The National Choral Award is given in recognition of
singular merit, ability, and achievement as demonstrated by
outstanding contributions to the success of the school vocal
program. The winner exhibits an unusual degree of loyalty,
cooperation, and exemplary conduct as determined by general
consent of the music faculty, the administrators, and
others.
NATIONAL SCHOOL MARCHING BAND AWARD – Certificate
The National School Marching Band Award is for outstanding
contributions to the school's marching band.
OFA/SMA CLASS OF 1966 AWARD - $75
The OFA/SMA Classes of 1966 present an award to a student
who has demonstrated respect for faculty, fellow students
and is a good school citizen.
PEPSI–COLA FINE ARTS AWARD - $50
The Pepsi-Cola Fine Arts Award is given to a graduating
senior who has excelled in drama, public speaking, vocal
music, instrumental music or
art appreciation.
JOHN PHILIP SOUSA AWARD – Trophy
The John Philip Sousa Award is given to the most outstanding
senior in band. The band members select the recipient on the
basis of musicianship, scholarship, character, and
outstanding service to the band.
JAMES A. PINKERTON MEMORIAL AWARD – Plaque
The James A. Pinkerton Memorial Award is an athletic award
presented to a well-rounded senior male student-athlete who
has made positive contributions to the Interscholastic
Athletic Program and exemplifies those qualities our coaches
want to see in OFA student-athletes.
JAMES P. SEYMOUR MEMORIAL AWARD - Plaque
The James P. Seymour Memorial Award is an athletic award
presented to an outstanding senior Male student-athlete who
embodies: Leadership in
athletic and school activities, Scholarship with above

concern for others, as well as
excellence in Athletics while exhibiting genuine interest
and demonstrating sportsmanship.
JENNIFER SOVIE MUSIC AWARD - $50
The Jennifer Sovie Music Award is given in Jennifer’s memory
by the class of 1992 to the senior who demonstrates
Jennifer’s pure love of music.
STUDENT COUNCIL AWARDS - $50
The Ogdensburg Free Academy Student Council presents this
scholarship to a student who has demonstrated outstanding
leadership in student government through participation in
student council activities, service to the student body and
dedication to the school community.

SCHOLARSHIPS
MARY L. AND ALBERT BAKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The Mary Baker Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student
entering nursing.
SALLY BIBBENS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
A scholarship of $100 is given by Ogdensburg Pro Musica
Chorus in memory of Sally Bibbens, founder and Director of
Pro Musica, to promote and reward participation in choral
music. The scholarship is awarded to a senior who has shown
excellence in vocal music.
THE JOAN BARRY SCHOLARSHIP - $100
Joan graduated from OFA in 1971. She was a fun-loving,
honest, helpful person who possessed a positive attitude.
She was always helping others. This scholarship of $100 is
presented to a special person entering the health care field
who exemplifies these qualities.
CHRISTOPHER J. BARSTOW MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS - $500
Christopher J. Barstow was a compassionate and open-minded
person who loved life, nature, and people of all ages. He
was a well-rounded student involved in drama, music, and
sports. He was an outdoorsman with an abiding respect for
all living things. Christopher hit the floor running and
lived each day to its fullest - always with a sense of
humor. The recipients possess the traits that made
Christopher the special person he was.
GEORGE E. AND ELEANOR BRACY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $250
George and Eleanor Bracy worked in law enforcement for a
combined total of 57 years. This scholarship given by family
and friends is awarded to a student who exemplifies the
following traits of the couple: honesty, perseverance,
dedication to work and willingness to help others.
JOSEPH R. BRANDY, SR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $150
The Joseph R. Brandy, Sr. Memorial Scholarship is presented
in memory of Joseph R. Brandy, Sr., a former football coach
at Ogdensburg Free Academy, to a student who has displayed
character, scholarship, leadership and who has participated
in interscholastic competition.
MARK BRANDY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $150
The Mark Brandy Memorial Scholarship, given by his family
and friends, is awarded to a student who has exhibited a
flair for creative writing and who has impressed his/her
teachers with his/her ability to use the written word.

The Daughters’ Thank You in Honor of Barbara J. Burns
Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who have
“turned things around” and have persevered throughout high
school.
C.S.E.A. LOCAL #873 FAYE BAXTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS - $100
and Certificate
The C.S.E.A. Local #873 Faye Baxter Memorial Scholarships
are awarded to members’ children who plan to pursue higher
education.
PRESTON AND JOAN CARLISLE SCHOLARSHIP - $300
The Preston and Joan Carlisle Scholarship is awarded each
year to a senior planning to continue his/her education in a
four-year college or university, and who has demonstrated
strong school participation in the classroom and on the
athletic field.
THOMAS D. CARMODY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The Thomas D. Carmody Memorial Scholarship is given by his
wife and daughters in memory of Thomas Carmody who lost his
courageous battle with cancer in November 2008. A member of
the class of 1961, he was an honor student and outstanding
athlete who participated in football and track and field,
who went on to play soccer at SUNY Potsdam. He was a
dedicated father and employee who gave his all in everything
that he did.

THE CLASS OF 2010 CHALLENGER SCHOLARSHIPS - $250
The Challenger Scholarship is given this year to two
graduating seniors who have demonstrated perseverance,
determination, and maintained a positive outlook and
attitude throughout their high school years.
COMMUNITY BANK, N.A. SCHOLARSHIP - $250
The St. Lawrence Community Bank presents a scholarship to a
worthy student who will enter higher education in the field
of business.
BENJAMIN HARRISON AND VIVIAN WILSON CORDWELL SCHOLARSHIP -
$500
A scholarship in honor of Benjamin Harrison and Vivian
Wilson Cordwell is awarded to a graduating senior who has
expressed an interest in pursuing a health-related field and
has been accepted at an accredited post-secondary
institution.
GERARD CRING MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
A scholarship in memory of OFA science teacher, Gerard
Cring, is awarded to a student who exhibits the qualities of
Gerard Cring. This student must have a strong sense of
humor, be a free thinker, participate in athletics and excel
in science.
JANET PELTON COOPER DAKIN-CLASS OF 1921 SCHOLARSHIP - $100
Mrs. Dakin's family donates the Janet Pelton Cooper
Dakin-Class of 1921 Scholarship in memory of her father, Dr.
W. Grant Cooper, after whom Cooper Field is named.
DAVID DELARGE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The David Delarge Memorial Scholarship is given to a senior
planning to enter the field of nursing. Mr. Delarge
graduated from OFA and the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center
School of Nursing and distinguished himself in the
administration of the Hepburn Medical Center Emergency Room.

SCHOLARSHIPS
C. EDWARD DILLINGHAM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000
The C. Edward Dillingham Memorial Scholarship is awarded to
a graduate who exemplifies Mr. Dillingham’s attributes of
sincerity, personality, leadership, initiative, service and
promotion of excellence.
WILLIAM E. DUPONT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $200
The William E. Dupont Memorial Scholarship is presented by
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Thrall and the Dupont family to a
senior who exhibits a provocative sense of humor,
enthusiasm, involvement, and above all, sensitivity and
gentleness towards other people.
DANNY DUPREY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
This scholarship is given in memory of Danny Duprey. Danny
Duprey graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1967. While
a student at OFA, he participated and excelled in track and
field. After graduation, Danny continued his education,
earning a degree from The Rochester Institute of Technology
and Clarkson University. He later became the Executive
Director of the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority. He
regularly volunteered his time to make the Ogdensburg area a
better place to live. The recipient of this scholarship has
demonstrated his/her excellence in track and field and is a
caring individual who volunteers time to serve the
community. The recipient will receive $100 and his/her name
engraved on the memorial plaque.
JOHN H. DURR, SR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS - $1000
John H. Durr, Sr. savored life with all of its ups and
downs. Known for his wit and sense of humor, he was
respected and loved by his family and many friends. This
scholarship rewards students who show the same love and
appreciation for their lives, respect family values, are
quick to offer the hand of friendship, and are contributors.
WILLIAM L. DWYER SCHOLARSHIP - $200 Savings Bond
A savings bond in memory of former Superintendent of Schools
William “Jeff” Dwyer is presented to that graduate who has
participated in athletics, demonstrating sportsmanship and
leadership qualities while maintaining an equally strong
commitment to the study of academics.
LORNE AND MARGE FAIRBAIRN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $500
The Lorne and Marge Fairbairn Memorial Scholarship is
presented by the Fairbairn family in memory of Mr. and Mrs.
Fairbairn because of their love for young people and respect
for education. It is awarded to a graduating senior to help
further his/her education.
CHARLES DOUGLAS FARLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS - $100
The Knights of Columbus is offering scholarships in memory
of Charles Douglas Farley. Charlie was a great and
distinguished musician and gentleman. Overcoming a disabling
condition, Charlie possessed an unparalleled love of music
and a passion for life. He dedicated his life to music and
the enjoyment and entertainment of others with impeccable
integrity and character.

First Student presents scholarships to a deserving male and
female student to help further their education in their
chosen field.
DEREK FLORIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The Derek Florin Memorial Scholarship is presented to a
student entering the field of art.
WILBUR FLORIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The Wilbur Florin Memorial Scholarship is presented to a
student who excels in social studies.
WILLIAM H. FLYNN TEACHER PREPARATION SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000
This scholarship, endowed by William H. Flynn, retired
Superintendent of Schools, is awarded to a well-rounded
student who has achieved academic and extra-curricular
success at OFA with a minimum GPA of 85, and who is pursuing
a degree in teacher education at SUNY Potsdam.
ROBERT H. GARVEY SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The Robert H. Garvey Scholarship is presented by Mrs. Sharon
Garvey in memory of her husband, Robert H. Garvey. Her
husband was a unique
individual who showed a positive attitude toward life and a
man who looked out for others and showed the utmost concern
for those in need. Bob
was a dedicated family man who drew comfort and strength
from his children and grandchildren. His memory continues to
put a smile on the faces
of the many lives he touched.
GLYNDON ARNOLD GIFFIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The Glyndon Arnold Giffin Memorial Scholarship is presented
to a student who has maintained a high mark in Regents
chemistry, was enrolled in AP chemistry, has displayed
leadership in chemistry laboratory situations, plans to
pursue further education in science, and has been a good
school citizen.
SPENCER J. GRENNON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The Spencer J. Grennon Memorial Scholarship is given by his
family to a graduating senior who exhibits the qualities
Spencer exhibited throughout his
life; sense of humor, good character, genuine concern for
others, and success in their chosen field.
FRED AND LIANNE HALEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $150
The Fred and Lianne Haley Scholarship is being presented to
a student who has displayed the attributes of leadership,
scholarship, character, and service.
YANCEY A. HARPER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $300
The Yancey A. Harper Memorial Scholarship is presented to a
graduating senior. Team spirit, sportsmanship, and fair play
are exemplified through his/her involvement in sports.
HOOSIER MAGNETICS TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP - $500
The Hoosier Magnetics Technical Scholarship is presented to
a graduating senior who has had academic success, shown
respect for the faculty and their peers, and is a good
school citizen. The student must be furthering his or her
education in the technical field.
ROBERT AND CONNIE HYNES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The family of Robert and Connie Hynes gives a scholarship in
their memory to a graduating senior who during his/her
senior year has shown loyalty to OFA and has represented the
school well.

INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIREFIGHTERS LOCAL 1799
SCHOLARSHIPS - $300
The members of the Ogdensburg Fire Department and the
International Association of Firefighters Local 1799 award
scholarships to students who exhibit the following traits:
potential to succeed in the chosen field of endeavor, a
successful and well-rounded high school career, pleasant
personality, sense of humor, and a genuine concern for the
welfare of others.
BEVERLY PROSSER JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $500
A scholarship in memory of Beverly Prosser Johnson is
presented to a student who exhibits qualities of leadership
and scholarship in the field of business.
RAYMOND L. JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $300
The Raymond L. Johnson Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a
deserving senior to further his/her education.
PAUL AND LAURA JONES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $250
The Paul and Laura Jones Memorial Scholarship is presented
in memory of Paul and Laura Jones to a student to help
further his/her education.
CHAD R. LAFLAIR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $200
Chad LaFlair, Class of 1993, enjoyed the outdoors, fishing
and was active in school sports, especially soccer and
hockey. This scholarship in the amount of $200 is awarded to
a student who is furthering his/her education.
LAKESIDE OFFICE PRODUCTS SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The Lakeside Office Products Scholarship is awarded by
Lakeside Office Supply, Plattsburgh, and its representative,
Bob Wyand. This scholarship is given to a graduating senior
planning to further his/her education in a business-related
field.
LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIPS - $100
The Language Department of Ogdensburg Free Academy presents
scholarships for excellence in foreign languages.
RICHARD M. LAROCK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
Richard M. LaRock is remembered as a dedicated teacher who
loved life, appreciated all the facets of the English
language, valued the beauty of music, enjoyed his students
and was devoted to his family. This scholarship is awarded
to a student who exhibits the qualities of generosity,
kindness, a good sense of humor and a concern for his/her
fellow man.
ETHEL F. LAROSE SCHOLARSHIPS - $300
“New Life Assembly of God” is pleased to present the Ethel
F. LaRose Scholarships to a young man and woman who have
demonstrated outstanding moral and ethical character. These
scholarships shall be given to students who have displayed
traits such as, but not limited to, trustworthiness,
humility, kindness, compassion and courteousness.
AARON LASHER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS - $150
Aaron Lasher served as the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 9
in Heuvelton for twenty-three years. The Aaron Lasher
scholarships are awarded to graduating high school students
who have maintained active participation in Boy Scout Troop
9 through graduation. “Character Counts”
ANNE LYNCH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $500
The Anne Lynch Memorial Scholarship is presented to a female
student who has shown excellence in academics and athletics
throughout her high school career.
HARRY MAHONEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The Harry Mahoney Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a
senior who appreciates the value of education, has displayed
the strength of character to make difficult personal
choices, has not been influenced by “the crowd” and has
indicated plans to major in engineering.
HENRY V. MALLETTE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $200
The Henry V. Mallette Memorial Scholarship is presented to a
graduate entering the armed services.
MATH ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The Math Department recognizes the student who has achieved
the highest math average during his/her four years of high
school mathematics.
MATH CAREER SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The Math Department presents an award to a student who
intends to continue his/her education in the mathematics
field.
RAYMOND L. MCALLISTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $200
The Ray L. McAllister Memorial Scholarship is awarded yearly
to the student who has exhibited outstanding talent and
academic achievement in the area of American history.
STANLEY AND HELEN MCCADAM SCHOLARSHIP - $500
Stanley and Helen McCadam awards a scholarship in memory of
the McCadam family to a student who shows leadership,
participates in extra-curricular activities, and has
demonstrated school citizenship coupled with good character
and scholastic achievement.
JIM MONTPELIER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $200
This scholarship is given in memory of former AV Director
and Librarian, Jim Montpelier, who is remembered for his
generous devotion of time and skill to countless school and
community events. The scholarship is given to a student who,
while not achieving the highest scores or honors, can be
depended upon to work hard and put forth his or her best
effort every day.
PATRICK J. MURPHY, JR. SCHOLARSHIP - $200
The Patrick J. Murphy, Jr. Scholarship is awarded in memory
of Patrick J. Murphy, Jr. to a deserving graduate to further
his/her education.

ASSOCIATION INC. SCHOLARSHIPS – $600 and Certificate
The New York State Correctional Officer & Police Benevolent
Association, Inc. presents scholarships at graduation to a
member's child to help further their education.
NO-NONSENSE BASKETBALL CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS - $100
The No-Nonsense Basketball Camp Scholarships are awarded to
two senior girls who have demonstrated work ethic,
perseverance, and attributes of a
team player.
NORTH COUNTRY SAVINGS BANK SCHOLARSHIP - $500
The North Country Savings Bank awards an annual scholarship
to a student who plans to major in the field of business.
OFA CLASS OF 1979 SCHOLARSHIPS - $100
The OFA Class of 1979 Scholarships are awarded to students
who have demonstrated class spirit, friendship, loyalty, and
citizenship that embodies the class of 1979.
OFA/SMA CLASS OF 1964 SCHOLARSHIPS - $100
The OFA/SMA Class of 1964 scholarships are awarded to
students who have consistently shown great respect for his
or her school, faculty and classmates, have been involved in
student programs and activities, and plans to attend
college.
OFA YEARBOOK SCHOLARSHIPS - $250
The OFA Yearbook Scholarships are presented to graduating
seniors in recognition of their outstanding contributions to
the Devilog.

students who exhibit high standards and have excelled in
education.
OGDENSBURG JOURNAL AND THE ADVANCE NEWS SCHOLARSHIP - $300
The Ogdensburg Journal and The Advance News awards a
scholarship to a student who has demonstrated excellence in
English with an interest in journalism and news reporting.
OGDENSBURG KIWANIS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP - $250
The Ogdensburg Kiwanis Club is presenting a scholarship to a
graduating senior who shows strong initiative, character and
concern for fellow students.
OGDENSBURG KIWANIS CLUB CHARLES FARLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
- $250
The Ogdensburg Kiwanis Club is presenting a scholarship in
memory of Charles Douglas Farley, a local musician, who
during his lifetime demonstrated for all of us the true
meaning of community service.
OGDENSBURG KIWANIS-KEY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP - $500
The Ogdensburg Kiwanis-Key Club is presenting a scholarship
to an outstanding member of the Ogdensburg Key Club who has
contributed endless hours of leadership and service to
his/her fellow club members, the organization of Key Club,
and to our community.
OGDENSBURG LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS - $500
The Ogdensburg Lions Club Scholarships are awarded to
students who have the potential to succeed and have been
good school citizens. Good character, high moral standards,
sincerity, personality, leadership, initiative, service and
the promotion of excellence are attributes of these
graduates.
OGDENSBURG ELKS LODGE B.P.O.E. #772 RONALD B. EWART MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP - $100
This scholarship is presented to a graduating senior.

SCHOLARSHIP - $100
This scholarship is presented to a graduating senior.
OGDENSBURG MOOSE LODGE 814 SCHOLARSHIPS - $500
These scholarships are awarded by the Ogdensburg Men’s and
Women’s Moose Lodge #814 to students who plan to further
their education, have the potential to succeed and have been
good school citizens. These students are sincere, have high
moral standards, and display initiative and leadership.
OGDENSBURG PATROLMAN’S BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION SERGEANT
GEORGE E. BRACY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS - $250
The Ogdensburg Patrolman’s Benevolent Association, in memory
of George E. Bracy, awards scholarships to students who
exemplify outstanding citizenship, Americanism, and have
achieved personal goals while attending Ogdensburg Free
Academy.
OGDENSBURG PRO MUSICA SPECIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The Ogdensburg Pro Musica Chorus Special Scholarship of $100
is awarded by the members to a member who is a graduating
senior, for his/her faithful participation and contributions
to the group.
OGDENSBURG WOMEN’S CITY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP - $200
The Ogdensburg Women’s City Club awards a scholarship to a
graduating senior who plans to further his/her education in
a health-related field and has achieved academic excellence
in his/her four years of high school.
TERRY PERO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
Her husband, Bruce Pero, her family, and her friends have
established the Terry Pero Memorial Scholarship to honor the
memory of Terry Pero. Terry was a generous, caring, and
dedicated art teacher, who lost her battle with leukemia in
the spring of 2000. This scholarship is presented to a
graduating senior who demonstrates an interest in pursuing
visual arts education or a career in this field.
JAMES PINKERTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $300
The James Pinkerton Memorial Scholarship is awarded in
memory of former athletic director and coach, James
Pinkerton. The family gives a scholarship to the student who
is respectful of authority and has demonstrated an all-out
effort on the athletic field and in the classroom.
SCHOLARSHIPS
PINTO MUCENSKI HOOPER AND VAN HOUSE SCHOLARSHIP - $350
The Pinto Mucenski Hooper and Van House Scholarship is
presented to a deserving student who will be entering
accounting or a business-related field.
WILLIAM G. POWERS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS - $500
A scholarship endowed by the family and friends of William
G. "Bill" Powers is given in memory of Bill's caring and
dedication to the greater OFA family. Bill was a former
teacher, coach, and administrator of OFA. The endowment
presents a scholarship to a deserving male and female
student to help further their education in their chosen
field.
PYTHIAN SISTERS SCHOLARSHIP - $200
The Pythian Sisters award a scholarship to a graduate who
through hard work has maximized his/her talents and has
demonstrated good school
citizenship.
THOMAS G. RAMIE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $200
The Thomas G. Ramie Memorial Scholarship is awarded in
memory of Tom Ramie, Class of 1988, to that member of the
senior class who has participated actively in all aspects of
the drama program at OFA and demonstrated the character and
sense of humor exemplified by Tom Ramie.
LISA ANN RAND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
Lisa Ann Rand, a member of the Class of 1983 who died in a
tragic car accident at the age of twenty-nine, will always
be remembered as a person who touched the lives of all who
knew her because of her ability to unconditionally give
love, respect and kindness to everyone she met. The Lisa Ann
Rand Memorial Scholarship is offered by her family, her
husband and her friends to a graduating senior who is kind,
caring, respectful of others, responsible and takes pride in
his/her work.
HELEN CATHCART ROBIE SCHOLARSHIP - $400
Her husband, Gardner Robie, is awarding the Helen Cathcart
Robie Scholarship to a graduating senior who is a good
school citizen, has been active in the school band programs
and who has participated in extra musical activities such as
NYSSMA and Area All State.
THOMAS G. ROETHEL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The Thomas G. Roethel Memorial Scholarship is presented to a
graduating senior who is continuing his/her education.
RONALD J. "BUNNY" ROSS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $250
During his time as principal, Mr. Ronald "Bunny" Ross
recognized students who did their best when self-confidence
and assertiveness for individuals was not always possible.
The Ross family gives the Ronald J. "Bunny" Ross Memorial
Scholarship to a student who works willingly and diligently
even though he or she may not be able to achieve the highest
honors.
FRANCIS W. RYAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $300
Francis W. Ryan is best remembered as a real humanitarian.
Out of public view, he gave of himself and his possessions
expecting only personal satisfaction in return. This
scholarship is awarded to a student who shows kindness,
humanity, generosity, good character, high moral standards,
and effective leadership and demonstrates service both to
school and community.
DOROTHY RYAN SEARS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The sisters of Dorothy Ryan Sears give the Dorothy Ryan
Sears Memorial Scholarship to a member of the graduating
class who has been accepted in a college curriculum in a
health-related field. It is based on academic merit,
financial need, and an excellent potential for success in
this field.
SENIOR ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIPS - $100 and Trophy
The Senior Achievement trophy and scholarships are being
awarded to senior students for scholarship, character,
leadership and dedication to their fellow classmates. The
recipients will also have their names engraved on the Senior
Achievement Trophy which will be on display in the school
trophy case.
SENIOR CLASS SCHOLARSHIPS - $100
The Senior Class Scholarships are being presented to
deserving members of the OFA senior class.
HELEN BARBER SHARP MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $200
The Helen Barber Sharp Memorial Scholarship is given by the
estate and family of Helen Barber Sharp to a senior aspiring
toward a career in the medical field, and who has shown
compassion and caring for others through volunteer services.
DAVID G. SHARPE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $150
The David G. Sharpe Memorial Scholarship, given by the
Thrall family, is awarded to a college-bound student who
best exemplifies those characteristics associated with David
G. Sharpe, as he lived and served the Ogdensburg Community.
JENNA L. SOVIE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
Jenna Sovie, a member of the Class of 2009 who died in a
tragic bicycle accident at the age of nine, was a sweet,
kind compassionate little girl who
loved life, people and animals. Jenna could brighten
anyone's day with her smile and her sense of humor. This
scholarship is given by Jenna's family
to a student who exemplifies Jenna's personality.
SARAH & DALENA STEVENS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $500
The Sarah & Dalena Memorial Scholarship is being awarded to
a student pursuing an Early Childhood Degree. Sarah was a
loving daughter, sister, and
aunt who cared about her family very much. She was a person
who loved and cared for children like they were her own. She
and her daughter died
in a car accident that took their beautiful lives.
STUDENT COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIPS - $100/$200
The Ogdensburg Free Academy Student Council presents this
scholarship to students who have demonstrated outstanding
leadership in student government through participation in
student council activities, service to the student body and
dedication to the school community.
SCHOLARSHIPS
MARIE TRUAX SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000
An endowed scholarship sponsored by the Mater Dei College
Foundation and the Sisters of St. Joseph is being awarded in
memory of Marie Truax. Marie was a former science teacher
and administrator at OFA. This award in the amount of $1000
is being given to a deserving student who has excelled in
the sciences at OFA and is pursuing a science-related major
to help further his or her education at an accredited four
year college or university.
RALPH E. WIBER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $250
The Ralph E. Wiber Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a
worthy graduate who will continue with higher education in
arts, nursing, business, or a technical field.
ARTHUR G. AND NANCY E. WILSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100
The Arthur G. and Nancy E. Wilson Memorial Scholarship is
awarded to a student who is interested in pursuing a
secretarial career or one of the skilled trades. This
scholarship honors an individual who understands the
importance of civic involvement and has a high regard for
freedom, justice and respect of the American form of
government. This distinction recognizes a student who
demonstrates mature participation and responsibility through
their involvement in service to the community, as well as,
in service to their country by their show of patriotism.
WINNING ATTITUDE SCHOLARSHIP - $300
The Winning Attitude Scholarship, sponsored by the Nifty
Fifties Class Reunion, is presented to students who have a
winning attitude and have demonstrated exemplary school
behavior.
NORTHWEST TECH B.O.C.E.S. AWARDS
An award of $50 and a certificate is presented to a student
who excels in one of the following Career & Technical
Education Programs: Automotive Technology, and Health
Careers.
